I am a refugee from Homs, Syria. My family and I came to Chicago in 2016 from Jordan. None of us spoke any English when we first arrived.
I heard about IMAS from friends and neighbors who referred me to the organization after learning I was having trouble finding social work assistance. I was impressed after my first visit at IMAS.
Most of the staff, who are refugees from Iraq and Syria themselves, understood the challenges and obstacles I was facing. Meeting them was not only helpful but also very comforting as it gave me the opportunity to reconnect with my old community.
I first met with Othman Al Ani, the Client Services Manager at IMAS, who guided me through my transition to life in the United States. Othman helped me and my wife to manage our travel loans, apply for disability benefits, and learn how to pay our utility, medical, and phone bills. Othman served as an important source of information when it came to navigating daily life here. Most recently, I came to IMAS when my family and I were applying for our Green Cards.
I am beyond grateful for the invaluable services that Othman and everyone else at IMAS have provided to me and my family. The amount of respect and care that IMAS has shown towards my family is unparelleled in our experience in the United States.
